I build software, and I help other people build it well.

Wernich Consulting is an independent software consultancy run by Wernich Bekker. I work with founders and teams who need someone who can go from a whiteboard sketch to production without a dozen hand-offs in between.

Most of my work sits in one of two places: building products from the ground up, or stepping into something that's stalled — a codebase that's hard to change, an architecture that won't scale, a roadmap nobody's sure about — and getting it moving again.

I'm hands-on and pragmatic. I'd rather ship a small thing that works than ship a beautiful plan that never leaves the document. I care about the boring parts — reliability, performance, cost, and the operational reality of running software after launch — because that's what separates a demo from a business.

I also run my own ventures. Kakmaklik is a productised web service for South African small businesses that I built, host, and operate end to end. It keeps me honest: everything I advise clients to do, I have to live with myself.
